“I believe that as well as creating unique images for my clients I should also help them explode the myths surrounding photography and show them what can be done. There are a lot of misconceptions about digital effects and adjustments so I try to show clients how sympathetic manipulation can enhance an image. I believe in working with my clients to help and guide them when necessary and to follow their guidelines to produce images to any specification. This could be anything from pictures for print or advertising to a beautiful, unique piece of art for their home.”
After graduating from the University of Surrey with a 2:1 honours degree in Engineering with Industrial Management I travelled for a year throughout America and Australia before returning to England in 1992. After several years working as a consultant engineer I decided on a change of career and began training as a photographer before becoming fully self employed in 1997. Business grew quickly from word of mouth recommendations and I has become well known for his candid B&W portraits, especially of nursery-school children.
After winning awards for portraiture I became a full member of the British Institute of Professional Photography in 1999 as business continued to grow. By offering black & white schools photographs I demonstrated an ability to produce that ‘something different’ to a wide range of people. This led to further private and commercial commissions which have helped expand my business.
My personal achievements include several awards for my photographs including national awards from Fuji and the British Institute of Professional Photography. I also held the Guinness World Record for the wakeboard marathon for 10 years, have twice completed the London to Brighton bike ride and have completed the Three Peaks Challenge (climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales) in less than 24 hours.
Now married and a father of 2 brilliant boys I find my life busier than ever. I hope I can inspire them to follow their passions in life, work hard and to always be true to themselves. I believe in encouraging a persons passion whatever it might be because if you can be enthusiastic about something you’ll enjoy it and become good at it.
As well as being a full-time photographer I also run Everswell Designs which currently sells a range of unique greetings cards using my photographs and I hope to extend the product range in the future to include unique gifts and creations.
I have Enhanced DBS certification which can be checked online via the DBS Update Service – please contact me for more information.
